BGTG 52 - Feb.26, 2006 - SR: Vinci, Wallenstein, Hansa, and Tikal (all play-by-web) and Feedback

Back to another Session Report & Feedback show, and back to my usual recording setup. This show focuses almost exclusively on play-by-web games, sharing some news about them, and talking about a few of the titles I played recently. Plus the feedback, of course.

As I hoped, this proved to be a notably shorter show. Anything less than an hour is notable for me, now! :) Gives you more time to listen to all of those other boardgame podcasts.

I always forget something in every show, and in this one I forgot to recommend the mailing list (i.e. Yahoo Group) for play-by-web boardgamers. It's called spiel-by-web, but isn't directly associated with Mikael Sheikh's site of the same name. It hasn't been a very active mailing list for some time, but I think would still be probably the best place for a community of players to congregate.

Oh, and have you played Blue Max over at You Play It? I'm on as 'Smithore'. If you want to setup a challenge game, I'm up for it.

Another good show. It's always fun playing with people you know.

A couple updates to you list of PBEM sites:

The "old" Vinci site resurfaced a few months ago. You can find it at http://www.techplanet.de/vinci/ . I still like that site better than the Ludagora version.

Yinsh and Punct can be played at:

Hey Mark--

You gotta empty out your inbox! Our game of Torres just wrapped up, and I wanted to say thanks for setting it up, it was a lot of fun. That game really lends itself to the play by web scheme. With one PBW game under my belt, I'm ready for more! It's too bad the message board for the game goes away as soon as it ends, thanks to ekted and alfredhw as well for a good game.

I can not help you with Vassal, I have created modules but never used it to play a game, how about a game over CyberBoard?

CyberBaord is a tool specifically designed for play by e-mail games. Unlike Vassal, it verifies the order of the turns, so nothing gets out of sync. I am working on
a Flash tutorial that gives a quick overview, and I would be glad to try it out with you.

Specifically, I an working on developing several light war games to sell as PDFs in places like www.RPGNow.com and www.wargamedownloads.com. I am
currently looking for opponents to test a game based on the battle of White Mountain in the Thirty Years War and a game based on a rescue operation during
the US invasion of Panama called operation Acid Gambit. Both play out in only a dozen or so turns, with Acid Gambit being the shorter.

Let me know if you are interested and I will give you a link for the necessary files. You can download the latest version of CyberBoard at
http://cyberboard.brainiac.com/index.html.

I love the podcast, keep up the good work.

Hey, thanks for this episode. I'm currently getting into my first game of Amun-Re on Spiele by web. I also just joined your game of reef encounter on there, I'm Apreche. I've never played Reef Encounter before, so bear with me.
